Overview

The Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Foundation (GSTF) is undergoing an exciting change and building its own Fundraising function and so are growing its Systems team. This will first support that change but also continue to seek ways to improve how technologies, our principal systems, processes and information can help the Foundation achieve its charitable goals.  
The Data Insight Analyst will be responsible not only for the design, production and maintenance of data visualisations to deliver business insight; but also, for supporting the ongoing development of effective data-driven insights, for which you’ll need to quickly build a good sense of our data, businesses and a great rapport with our users. The analysis you produce and present – of our core audiences, our performance and through benchmarking exercises – will deliver actionable insights which will inform future fundraising activity and strategic direction. 
You will deliver high quality analysis, reports and dashboards for a wide range of stakeholders technical and non-technical – ensuring they are equipped to drive improvements to their programmes. Your joined-up approach to analysis will result in learning being shared across directorates, and with the rest of the data team you will ensure the structure and quality of the data we hold aids future analysis. The Data Analyst will assist the Data Manager with all aspects of analysis, interpretation and application of insight where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build high quality, customised, usable dashboards and reports in different systems. 
  • Learn and fully understand the data landscape of the Foundation’s Systems with a focus on Fundraising and associated teams (including Major Gifts, Prospect Research, Mass Marketing, Events, Legacy and Finance). 
  • Monitor and report regularly on key financial and non-financial metrics, the prospect pipeline, and team performance. 
  • Lead on benchmarking exercises/ market analysis initiatives. 
  • Present analysis findings and recommendations concisely to internal stakeholders. Including Senior Management in order to influence improvements to business process and formation of data driven strategies. 
  • Understand the end-to-end life cycle of our data to effectively review and validate the data within it. 
  • Actively participate in and contribute to architecture/design discussions and decisions that will lead to system improvement and business intelligence enhancements. 
  • Work with Business Analysts to deliver sprints relating to reporting, dashboard and insight creation, improvement, and changes. 
  • Gather end user data insight requirements and deliver these tasks and projects to agreed deadlines. 
  • Support users with the navigation and interpretation of dashboards devising one-off or ongoing training where appropriate. 
  • Take responsibility of the maintenance and support of data insight solutions, including the logging, tracking and ultimate resolution of user support requests. 
  • Provide a consistent and approachable point of contact for users and other stakeholders. 
  • Work with teams to ensure the accuracy of data, and our ability to undertake future analysis, is maintained. Provide support, where needed, to other data related roles. 
  • Ensure a joined-up approach to analysis projects across the department and be committed to shared learning and the retention of insight. 
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Data Manager. 
  • Take a customer focused approach and adapt outputs according to the needs of the client. 
  • Proactive in planning, prioritising and organising workload to achieve agreed objectives. 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Experience of using data from CRM databases such as Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce.

Knowledge, experience, and qualifications: 
Essential 
  • Experience in learning new systems to understand data, then utilise the data to produce impactful data insights. 
  • Experience of using data manipulation/ analysis/ visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Excel and/or SPSS. 
  • Experience joining data from different systems to produce succinct dashboards. 
  • Knowledge of SQL or other query languages/ applications. 
  • Experience with identifying and managing the impact of data quality issues on business intelligence solutions. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to build rapport and establish credibility quickly, tailoring style to a broad range of individuals at all levels. 
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. 
  • Ability to gather, analyse and report on often complex sets of data. 
  • Adaptation and presentation of information to a non-expert audience. 
  • Delivery of successful projects. 
Desirable 
  • Knowledge of fundraising operations. 
  • Knowledge of the Raiser’s Edge fundraising CRM system. 
  • Experience in a similar role, being one of the few data insight experts in an organisation, ready to champion its benefits. 
  • Experience of working to agile principles.
