Overview

The Senior Donor Relations Manager will develop, sustain and nurture lifelong relationships with our donors – before, during and after their gift. 

You will work closely with the philanthropy, corporate, grant team and clinical colleagues across the 3 hospitals to produce compelling and bespoke impact reports, communications and engagement opportunities for donors.  

The role is the subject matter expert in donor relations and will provide expert advice to stakeholders across the fundraising team and three hospitals regarding donor relations and stewardship activities.  This will mean working strategically to make recommendations, deliver and implement a range of meaningful donor experiences, communications, recognition opportunities, costings and activities for our most significant donors, deepening their connection to the GSTC and connecting them with the tangible impact of their giving.  

The role will support the Philanthropy team to develop a deep understanding of our donors, ensuring that stewardship activities are meeting supporter needs and preferences and ultimately supporting cultivation.  The role will be responsible for ensuring that all projects are delivered on time, to budget and to a high standard.    

Key Responsibilities

Donor insight, analysis and planning
  • Understand the donor relations needs of the major gift, corporate and community teams to develop appropriate solutions. Think creatively about stewardship, implementing new ideas and identifying opportunities, in order to increase donor loyalty and giving.
  • Work proactively with fundraisers to identify a package of stewardship that supports cultivation.
  • Stay abreast of legislation, trends in philanthropy, industry standards and best practice and integrate learning into stewardship work.
  • Provide advice and guidance on donor recognition and engagement. 
  • Serve as the Donor Relations key contact and advisor on gift agreements, maintain current templates and provide inductions. Serve as main liaison to team as required.
Delivery
  • Plan, create and deliver impactful stewardship for major gift donors, including reporting and recognition which will maintain and enhance meaningful relationships with the donor. This may also include the delivery of non-traditional stewardship updates, including video, microsites, infographics, gifts and visits etc. in order to meet the needs of the donor. 
  • Work with the Head of Philanthropy  in order to agree and fulfil delivery of all elements of the stewardship programme on time and to a high standard.
  • Oversee the development of a programme for corporate stewardship.
  • Be the subject matter expert for advising fundraisers on stewardship commitments within gift agreements and proposals.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on all donor relations or stewardship delivery queries.
  • Build strong relationships across teams Fundraising to develop good practices for the sharing of stories, and share knowledge and expertise to maximise stewardship and communications products.
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders at across all our partners, to ensure donors’ wishes are fulfilled and opportunities are identified.
  • Network with other donor relations professionals in order to solve complex problems and develop innovative new ideas.
  • Ensure the standard of service is consistently high and meets the needs of donors and fundraisers, through frequent communication with fundraising managers, the setting and monitoring of team objectives.
  • Engage internal partners as active participants in recognising and stewarding donors as well as creating meaningful engagement opportunities.
  • Oversee the management of an effective roster of suppliers including designers, printers and photographers to help deliver high quality, cost-effective and effective communications.
Leadership
  • Lead cross-team projects, developing new and existing communications, managing input from stakeholders, delivering to specified timescale and budget.
Planning and resource management
  • Work with the Fundraising team to ensure that there are clear processes in place to manage workflow. Act as a champion for following these processes.
  • Take overall responsibility for the allocation of the stewardship budget. Make recommendations on which resources to invest in and make a case for increased or decreased budget as necessary. Provide regular updates to the Head of Philanthropy on budget spend and ROI.
  • Oversee the creative development of all stewardship plans, working with the team to ensure on-time delivery.
Work environment
  • The post holder should expect to:
    • Work in a hybrid hot desk environment, generally working 2 days a week in the London office and three from home. 
    • Be responsible for the input and maintenance of databases and files relevant to the post requirements.
    • Will occasionally be required to attend events in the evening and at weekends.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Translation of audience insight and profiling into key messaging and engaging content
  • Experience of planning and managing time pressured projects
  • Experience of managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience of using Raiser’s Edge or similar customer/donor data base and associated processes and systems
  • Experience in Adobe InDesign software
  • Creative writing skills – skilled storyteller, ability to make a story compelling, contagious and inspire action
  • Strong editorial, copy writing and proof-reading skills
  • Analytical: ability to interpret insight into key messages and engagement content and effective calls to action
  • Building relationships across organisational boundaries, demonstrating tact and negotiating sensitively, building networks of content providers
  • Knowledge and application of brand voice and narrative in a complex environment
  • Understanding of one or more of: UK Charity sector/ Higher Education/NHS and broad healthcare sector
  • Digital production skills e.g. video creation
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work well under pressure and deliver projects to budget
  • Ambitious, driven and self-motivated and the ability to inspire the same in others
  • Comfortable with decision making at every level and an ability to come up with creative solutions
