Community Southwark is the umbrella body for the voluntary and community sector (VCS) in Southwark. They support charities and community groups with advice, training, and volunteers. They connect organisations to each other, funders, and decision makers to make change, together.
The VCS makes a significant contribution the health of people in Southwark, whether via direct support, providing access to service and healthcare or through increased community connection. By investing in Community Southwark, we are making a direct investment into the strength and stability of the VCS in the borough and contributing to the infrastructure that makes Southwark a healthier place to live.
Aim of the partnership
A long-term strategic partnership with Community Southwark (CS) that enables:
Capacity building support for charities and other organisations supporting racially minoritised people in Southwark by increasing income and resources available to organisations providing support.
Support for networks including the Race Equity and Cultural Heritage Alliance (REACH). REACH is leading community engagement on health inequalities in Southwark.
Opportunity to collectively advocate for changes in health and its determinants that better reflect the needs and experiences racially minoritised communities in Southwark.
Inform funding strategies and ways of working across the funding eco-system in Southwark and beyond.
Our partnership with Impact on Urban Health directly contributes to giving bespoke advice and training to charities and community groups which have been so historically under-represented in funding and decision-making. It strengthens, connects, and champions their deeply-embedded community activity. And it ensures that Community Southwark can continue our wider support to demonstrate their value and to campaign for system change – ensuring that all our communities have the power, resources, and partnerships to create a more equal Southwark.
