As our Chief Executive, Laurie leads all areas of our work at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation, working closely with the executive team and board of Trustees in furthering our vision to help everyone stay healthier for longer. Laurie leads our work across our multiple routes to impact; supporting better, fairer, faster healthcare through our NHS Charities, programmatic work collaborating with local partners, communities and government in Impact on Urban Health, and stewarding the management of our Endowment for mission-aligned objectives and financial returns.

Laurie brings a wealth of experience in senior leadership roles, including eight years as Chief Executive of  CARE International UK, one of the UK’s major humanitarian and global poverty charities, which operates in over 100 countries around the world, responding to emergencies and supporting women’s social, economic and political equality.

Prior to that, he worked in various senior UK Government roles, including as Foreign Policy Advisor to PM Tony Blair on the 2005 G8 Gleneagles Summit. Laurie also worked for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which works to reduce global health inequality and poverty around the world. As Deputy Director of Policy & Advocacy he led on policy, advocacy and government relations, including changing the way the Foundation partnered with policymakers, so it could achieve change at scale.

He has held several a board positions, including at the British Gas Energy Trust which works to reduce fuel poverty in the UK. He is currently a Board member of Girls First Finance, a fintech social enterprise.
