Overview

This role will join a vibrant and ambitious fundraising department, raising funds to support our work across the largest NHS Trust in the UK. You will be part of the Individual & Legacy Giving Team. The team’s mission is to raise income for our three hospitals to enable them to continue their vital work. This role will make a huge difference in helping us do that.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic planning 
  • Manage the planning and delivery of the acquisition activity portfolio through the development of yearly operational and marketing plans and working effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure work is briefed and prioritised.  
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to grow income and broaden participation through raffles and other prize-led fundraising initiatives. 
  • Use insight, data analysis, and supporter feedback to shape product development and improve retention. 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align the lottery's objectives with the organization's fundraising goals and mission. 
Regulatory compliance 
  • Ensure the lottery is fully compliant with the Gambling Act 2005, Gambling Commission guidance, and all relevant charity law. 
  • Liaise with our External Lottery Manager (ELM), regulatory bodies, and legal advisors to maintain licences, policies, and reporting. 
  • Implement responsible gambling practices, monitor risks, and ensure safeguarding of supporters. 
  • Establish protocols for responsible gambling practices and implement measures to prevent fraud and ensure fair play. 
  • Working closely with internal Compliance and Legal teams, ensuring prize – led fundraising activities are compliant with key legal and statutory requirements including Data Protection and charity regulatory bodies.  
Lead player acquisition campaigns 
  • Lead the design, delivery, and optimisation of large-scale supporter acquisition campaigns across multiple channels including door-to-door (D2D), email, post, and digital marketing. 
  • Manage external agencies, canvassing partners, and suppliers to deliver high-quality campaigns that deliver strong ROI. 
  • Use data-driven targeting and segmentation to identify new audiences and grow the lottery’s supporter base at scale. 
  • Monitor and report on campaign performance, adjusting strategies to maximise supporter acquisition and long-term value. 
Supporter engagement 
  • Lead the development of supporter journeys, ensuring every lottery member feels thanked, valued, and inspired by their impact. 
  • Work with the Marketing & Communications team to create engaging campaigns to drive participation and retention. 
Financial Management 
  • Set and manage lottery budgets, forecasts, and KPIs, reporting regularly to the Head of Individual and Legacy Giving. 
  • Monitor revenue and expenses, track performance metrics, and implement strategies to optimize financial outcomes. 
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping, reconciliations, and audit trails are in place. 
  • Establish systems for transparent reporting and accountability, providing regular updates to stakeholders on the lottery's financial performance and impact. 
Leadership & collaboration 
  • Manage relationships with canvassing agencies, ensuring quality recruitment and positive supporter experience. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Individual Giving, Legacy, and wider fundraising teams to maximise cross-promotion opportunities. 
Work environment 
  
The post holder should expect to: 
 
  • Work in a hybrid hot desk environment, generally working 2 days a week in the London office and three from home.  
  • Be responsible for the input and maintenance of databases and files relevant to the post requirements. 
  • Will occasionally be required to attend events in the evening and at weekends. 
 
Role responsibilities are not exhaustive, and you would be reasonably expected to take on wider tasks that are commensurate with the level of your role.  
 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Knowledge & experience 
  • Proven experience in individual giving campaign management across multiple channels, including door-to-door, email, digital, and post. 
  • Understanding of gambling legislation and compliance requirements, or willingness to develop expertise quickly. 
  • A track record of meeting financial targets with management experience of setting, monitoring and reforecasting on budgets.  
  • Experience of managing budgets, agencies, and/or external partners. 
  • Skilled at producing evaluations, reporting on objectives and interpreting analysis and insights.  
  • Experience in developing supporter journeys and stewardship plans. 
  • An excellent understanding of the legalities of the fundraising sector, particularly those that are relevant to Individual Giving fundraising, along with a grasp on the wider landscape of the sector.  
Desirable Criteria  
  • Previous experience working on a lottery or other prize-led fundraising product. 
  • Passion for Guy’s & St Thomas’ Charites values and work.  
  • Demonstrable experience in championing a team at an organisational level with excellent skills in influencing and negotiation.  
  • Demonstrable experience in using innovation techniques to develop and implement strategies. This will also include experience in leading and/or supporting innovation projects to develop products and/or stewardship with a focus on income growth and supporter experience.  
  • Strong organisational skills with demonstrated ability to independently meet multiple deadlines.  
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to distil complex information clearly for a range of audiences. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships across the fundraising team, hospitals and key stakeholders.  
  • Capability to influence and build rapport in order to achieve desired outcomes.  
  • Proactive approach and demonstrated use of initiative to identify new opportunities and research viability to in order to achieve comprehensive, qualified donor pipelines.  
  • Understanding of relevant data protection policy (EU GDPR 2018 and UK Data Protection Act 2018).  
  • Excellent communication skills, able to engage supporters, stakeholders, and colleagues with warmth and clarity. 
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret data, spot trends, and take informed action. 
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. 
  • Creative thinker with commercial acumen and a supporter-first mindset. 
  • Value diversity and treat others with respect, showing sensitivity towards differences, promoting and encouraging diversity, and building on people’s different skills and talents to enhance the quality of their own and other’s work.  
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout England and Wales and to work evenings and weekend on occasion including overnight stays.
