Launching our updated Urban Health Index
Two years ago, we launched our first Urban Health Index (UHI). We have now updated our index, the data, measurements and the look and feel.
Urban Health
In 2023, we supported over 100 outstanding partners to find solutions to ill-health in cities. Our Executive Director, Peter Babudu, presents a roundup of their achievements.
This July, I joined Impact on Urban Health as Executive Director.
It was such a proud moment for me. I care deeply about people’s health, about fairness, and about equal opportunities. That’s why I jumped at the chance to work with this fantastic organisation.
And since then, I’ve been blown away by how much good work is happening at Impact on Urban Health.
In fact, there’s so much that I wanted to take time at the end of the year to say thank you to all our partners.
Whereas I’ve only had time to talk about a few projects in this film, I want to say a huge thank you to all our partners. It’s only with your support that we can realise our vision of making cities healthier places for everyone.
That vision is of a world where children don’t have to go hungry while they’re at school.
…Where everyone has the same access to clean air, which doesn’t cause lifelong health issues.
…Where mental health support is accessible to all.
…And where everyone has an opportunity for a long, healthy, and happy life.
I hope you’re able to enjoy some rest over a winter break and to be proud of your fantastic achievements this year. I’m looking forward to doing even more work together in 2024.
Data

Children's health and food
Head of Policy and Influencing Mark Heffernan reflects on progress made towards creating a healthier food system, and what needs to happen next to ensure transformative change.
Financial foundations for adult health
Mental, physical, and financial health are deeply connected. We wanted to find out if available apps are helpful to residents of Lambeth and Southwark, especially those with health problems. This is one of the few studies on Open Banking conducted with people on low incomes.
Health effects of air pollution
There’s a perception that burning wood is a cheaper way to heat a home. New research we’ve supported by Global Action Plan shows not only is that not true, but there are significant hidden costs to burning wood.
